What's the difference between a local and a spa hammam?

A local hammam costs about 20 dirhams. It's a communal public facility — men and women use it at separate times, you undress in a shared changing area, and the scrubbing happens in a heated communal room. A spa hammam costs 400–800 dirhams — private rooms, robes, English-speaking staff. Couples can have treatments together.

The neighbourhood hammam is also a social institution. Women go weekly, exchange news, catch up. It's routine hygiene, not a treatment or an experience.
